The Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission (IBAC) has today released the annual snapshot of its independent police oversight role, identifying a rising number of complaints and notifications about police misconduct. This snapshot provides an overview of police misconduct complaints and notifications received by IBAC in the 2023 calendar year, as well as information on monitoring, investigations, reviews, recommendations, compliance audits and prevention initiatives.

Public examinations into allegations of serious corruption involving the Victorian vocational education and training, and transport sectors will be held by IBAC, the state’s anti-corruption commission, in Melbourne later this month. Victoria's anti-corruption Commission, IBAC, has unravelled a multimillion dollar training scam that exploited oversight weaknesses at two Victorian TAFEs: South West Institute of TAFE and Bendigo Kangan Institute of TAFE. A special report tabled before Parliament this morning details the findings and recommendations of a major IBAC investigation, Operation Lansdowne, into allegations of serious corrupt conduct relating to South West Institute of TAFE and Bendigo Kangan Institute of TAFE, and third-party agreements those TAFEs had entered into with TayTell Pty Ltd.

Wednesday 25 Oct 2023 Former MP sentenced following IBAC investigation
Today in the County Court of Victoria, former Victorian MP Russell Northe was sentenced to a total of 21 months in prison for misconduct in public office, with a non-parole period of 12 months following an investigation by the Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission (IBAC).   The charges were as a result of IBAC’s Operation Sturt, which investigated Mr Northe’s alleged misuse of Victorian Electoral Commission funding.
