IBAC charges Victoria Police officer with unlawful assault

The Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission (IBAC) has charged a Victoria Police officer with unlawful assault.

The Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission (IBAC) has charged a Victoria Police officer with unlawful assault.

The charges follow IBAC investigation Operation Carey into the alleged assault of a person in custody at St Kilda Police Station in July 2021.

The first court appearance will be at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 29 August 2022.

IBAC is Victoria's independent body responsible for preventing and exposing police misconduct and public sector corruption. IBAC's jurisdiction covers state and local government, police, parliament and the judiciary.
