Today, the Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission (IBAC) tabled its Annual Plan for 2022/23 outlining its priorities for the next twelve months, which include major infrastructure projects, high-risk police regions, and police responses to police family violence incidents and predatory behaviour.

As Victoria's anti-corruption commission, IBAC's vision is a public sector and police that acts with integrity for all Victorians.  The Annual Plan identifies six strategic areas of focus to guide its work to prevent and expose public sector corruption and police misconduct.

Informed by IBAC's intelligence gathering, data analysis and engagement with its stakeholders, the strategic focus areas for 2022/23 are:

  • High-risk police units, divisions & regions
  • High-risk public sector agencies
  • Major infrastructure projects
  • Improper influence - the influence of lobbyists, donors, government-aligned stakeholders and third-party facilitators
  • Use of force on people at risk
  • Police responses to police family violence incidents and predatory behaviour.

IBAC's Annual Plan also provides a budget overview and commits to new and ongoing initiatives to deliver the second year of its five year strategic plan, The IBAC Plan 2021-25.

As part of this work, IBAC will continue to be more accessible and accountable to the community, including through the redesign of its website.

An extensive program of education and engagement with Victoria Police will continue as part of IBAC's independent police oversight role, holding police accountable for acting fairly and in accordance with the law.

With a focus on continuous improvement, the communication and support provided to complainants, witnesses and others involved in IBAC investigations will be enhanced. IBAC will also boost its engagement and education program, with diverse communities a continuing priority.
