A Victoria Police Commander was today found guilty of three counts of disclosing a restricted matter in the Melbourne Magistrates' Court, following an investigation by Victoria's independent police oversight body, the Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission (IBAC).
In June 2019 IBAC charged Commander Stuart Bateson with three counts of disclosing a restricted matter to a fellow officer while it was the subject of an IBAC confidentiality notice.
Disclosing a restricted matter is contrary to section 44(1) of the Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Act 2011.
The matter has now been adjourned for sentencing.
