IBAC examinations into alleged serious police misconduct to resume

Public examinations into alleged serious police misconduct in Ballarat will resume on Monday 23 May, after last month’s High Court ruling paved the way for them to proceed.

IBAC’s Operation Ross hearings will focus on:

  • alleged excessive use of force by officers at Ballarat Police Station
  • the Victoria Police management of, and response to, alleged excessive use of force by police officers, including in Ballarat.

The public examinations will be held at the Ballarat court complex from Monday 23 to Friday 27 May, commencing at 10am each day.

The IBAC Commissioner, Stephen O’Bryan QC, will preside over the examinations. Counsel Assisting will be Jack Rush RFD QC and Gary Hevey RFD of the Victorian Bar. 

Operation Ross examinations were initially scheduled for April 2015 but adjourned pending a series of appeals.
