Former Victorian Police Commander sentenced following IBAC investigation

A former Victoria Police Commander has been sentenced following an investigation by Victoria's police oversight body, the Independent Broad-based Anti-Corruption Commission, IBAC.

Mr Bateson had previously plead not guilty to three counts of disclosing a restricted matter to a fellow officer in breach of an IBAC confidentiality notice and contrary to section 44(1) of the Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Act 2011.

Following a contested hearing, Mr Bateson was found guilty of all three charges.

Appearing in the Melbourne Magistrates Court today, Mr Bateson was sentenced to a fine of $6000 without conviction.

Mr Bateson recently retired from Victoria Police.
