Media Policy

Before contacting us, please understand IBAC is necessarily limited in what information it can provide to media:

  • For legal and operational reasons, we generally do not comment on whether we have a complaint or investigation before us. We will only comment in exceptional circumstances, and when it is in the public interest to do so.
  • Due to statutory restrictions, we cannot comment on protected disclosure complaints (formerly whistleblower complaints).
  • Complainants or witnesses may have been issued with a confidentiality notice or granted protected discloser status. We suggest you seek legal advice before speaking with potential complainants or witnesses.
  • IBAC generally does not grant interviews.
  • Specific media guidelines are issued if an investigation proceeds to public examination.
  • To protect the identity and safety of witnesses, IBAC may issue non-publication orders during public examinations. These may prohibit or restrict the publication of any information or evidence given as part of a public examination.

Please note: We endeavour to help with student requests. However, priority is given to enquiries from media organisations.
